For applications requiring excellent performance under extreme conditions of temperature, chemical attack, high energy radiation or electrical specifications Stug Australia has a range of high performance materials manufactured by Erta/DSM in Belgium. These are:

PEEK PRODUCTS

Scientific name: Polyetherketone
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: PEEK - Available in natural (grey) and black
PEEK BG - PEEK with PTFE, graphite and carbon fibres to give higher mechanical strength, lower co-efficient of friction and improved wear resistance. Black colour.
PEEK GF30 (grey) & PEEK CA30 (black) - 30% glass & carbon fibre content gives greater stiffness and strength plus superior creep properties at high temperatures.
General properties:

• Very high mechanical strength, hardness and stiffness
• Very high max. service temperature (250 - 310°C)
• Excellent chemical & hydrolysis resistance
• Very good creep resistance even at high temperatures
• Excellent wear resistance over a wide range of operating conditions
• Very good dimensional stability
• Low flammability
• Exceptional resistance against high energy radiation
• Suitable for food contact

PPS

Scientific name: Polyphenylene sulphide
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: PPS - dark blue colour
General properties: • Very high mechanical strength, stiffness & hardness
• Very high max. service temperature (220 - 260°C)
• Excellent wear resistance even at high temperatures
• Low co-efficient of friction
• Excellent chemical & hydrolysis resistance
• Very good creep resistance & dimensional stability
• Good electrical insulating & dielectric properties
• Low flammability
• Very good resistance against high energy radiation
Applications: Suitable for applications requiring excellent performance in high temperatures and/or harsh chemical environments

PVDF

Scientific name: Polyvinylidene fluoride
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: PVDF - white colour
General properties: • Good mechanical strength, stiffness & creep resistance
• High toughness even at low temperatures
• Low co-efficient of friction
• Excellent chemical & hydrolysis resistance
• High max. service temperature (150°C)
• Exceptional UV and weather resistance
• Excellent wear resistance
• Good sliding properties
• Very good dimensional stability
• Good electrical insulating properties
• Low flammability
• Very good resistance against high energy radiation
• Suitable for food contact
Applications: Especially suitable for applications in the food, paper, pharmaceutical, medical, petrochemical, chemical, metallurgical, textile and nuclear industries.

PEI

Scientific name: Polyetherimide
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: PEI - translucent amber colour
General properties: • Good mechanical strength, stiffness & hardness
• Excellent hydrolysis resistance (suitable for repeated steam sterilisation)
• High max. service temperature (170 - 210°C)
• Very good retention of creep resistance & stiffness over a wide range of temperatures
• High toughness even at low temperatures
• Very good dimensional stability
• Good electrical insulating & dielectric properties
• Very good resistance against high energy radiation
• Suitable for food contact
Applications: Parts subject to repeated cleaning & sterilisation (food & medical applications)
Food and other processing equipment
Heat exchangers
Electrical insulating bushings & housings
High performance parts working elevated temperatures.

PSU

Scientific name: Polysulphone
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: PSU - translucent yellow colour
General properties: • Good mechanical strength, stiffness & hardness
• Excellent hydrolysis resistance (suitable for repeated steam sterilisation)
• High max. service temperature (150 - 180°C)
• Very good retention of creep resistance & stiffness over a wide range of temperatures
• High toughness even at low temperatures
• Very good dimensional stability
• Good electrical insulating & dielectric properties
• Very good resistance against high energy radiation
• Suitable for food contact
Applications: Parts subject to repeated cleaning & sterilisation (food & medical applications)
Food and other processing equipment
Heat exchangers

PI

Scientific name: Polyimide
Available in: Sheet, Rod
Types: VSP-1 - Unfilled PI providing excellent physical properties and electrical & thermal insulation. Red-brown colour.
VSP-2 - 15% graphite filled, giving long wear and low friction. Grey-black colour.
VSP-211 - 15% graphite and 10% PTFE filled resulting in a low co-efficient of friction over a wide range of operating conditions and exceptional wear rate up to 150°C. Grey-black colour.
VSP-22 - 40% graphite filled to give the wear and friction properties of SP-21 with improved dimensional stability. Grey-black colour.
VSP-3 - 15% molybdenum disulfide provides self-lubrication for seals and bearings in vacuum or dry environments. Grey-black colour.
General properties:

• High mechanical strength, stiffness & hardness over a wide range of temperatures
• Very high max. service temperature (245 - 480°C)
• Excellent wear resistance
• Very good creep resistance
• Good sliding properties
• Very good dimensional stability
• Low flammability
• Exceptional resistance against high energy radiation

Applications: Used in very demanding applications in the electrical, semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, defence and nuclear industries.
